SOLUTION
Building a single, unified platform for ultimate service
Over the course of years, RFT and Trimble have worked together to replace RFT’s outdated systems with a strategic, integrated technology ecosystem, designed specifically for their unique needs.
Throughout the past implementation of Trimble TruckMate TMS, TMT Fleet Maintenance and CoPilot (with custom locations), this partnership prioritized clean data, ensuring every operational decision was based on a single source of truth. This multi-product ecosystem was recently taken to the next level with Trimble Freight Visibility, adding the critical layer of real-time asset tracking needed to manage RFT's complex changeovers.
This collaborative approach moved RFT beyond simply buying software; it was about building a cohesive, customized toolset that adapted to their operations, not the other way around.

When you put it all together, we have good insights into the business, can easily see exceptions, can generate reports on exceptions, and help our people manage those exceptions and provide our customers the best experience. When you've got good systems and you can pull the data together, you can do all sorts of different things with it, and that's what we're really focused on in our business.

Breaking down the RFT technology ecosystem
By combining the planning power of TruckMate TMS, the real-time tracking of Freight Visibility, the customized navigation of CoPilot and the fleet health monitoring of TMT Fleet Maintenance, RFT has built a unified ecosystem that strengthens its commitment to service.

Complex trip planning
The TMS enables RFT to plan complex runs, broken down into multiple legs and shifts, essential for their high asset utilisation strategy that keeps trucks moving, and drivers home on time.

Central data source
TruckMate is the central source of truth, pushing essential, accurate shipment and location information out to other systems like Freight Visibility and CoPilot.

Improved visibility of orders
It provides a clear, centralised view of the entire order lifecycle, allowing RFT to track assets and schedule with precision, across their entire network.
FREIGHT VISIBILITY Real-time intelligence
The integration of Freight Visibility provided the real-time asset tracking necessary to manage RFT’s complex, multi-vehicle relay shipments and meet their demanding service level agreements (SLAs). It monitors assets against the master data supplied by TruckMate.

Automated changeover tracking
The system provides real-time monitoring to automatically detect when assets arrive at pre-defined changeover points, instantly feeding that data back into the TMS for automated customer updates.

Proactive exception management
By instantly seeing when an asset will not meet a planned departure or arrival time, the operations team can proactively manage exceptions and update customers with new ETAs within their crucial 15-minute window.

Achieving service levels
Visibility collects the on-time performance data needed to ensure RFT consistently hits their benchmark of 99.7% service reliability.

TMT FLEET MAINTENANCE Keeping their assets running at their best
Connecting all maintenance data for RFT’s assets into their TMS, navigation and visibility solutions was key to unifying their ecosystem. It’s vital that their team knows which vehicles are operational and which need maintenance, and for how long they might be disabled. To accomplish this, they use TMT Fleet Maintenance.

Streamlined repairs and maintenance
Instead of having to manually input data or call a technician, data flows directly from vehicles and equipment directly into RFT’s ecosystem to see repair details and status in one location.

Reliable warranty information
This integration also enables warranty information to be seamlessly tracked and accessed in the event of part or asset failure.

Warranty recovery workflows
In addition to automatically notifying technicians in the event of an expired warranty, TMT Fleet Maintenance makes it easy to file warranty claims with manufacturers and quickly manage the process from start to finish.
COPILOT AND CUSTOM LOCATIONS Precision at the final mile
The sheer size of RFT’s B-double trucks and the complexity of Australian road regulations demanded a highly customised navigation and location solution. CoPilot and its underlying guidance algorithms and location data services were adapted to meet these specific needs.

Customized truck-legal routing
The system was enhanced to comply with Australia’s unique road transport regulations, specific to RFT’s overdimensional equipment and permits.

High-precision locations
Trimble developed a new API to allow RFT to store and push over 3,000 custom locations – including precise polygonal geofences and ‘parent / child’ polygons for specific dock doors – from TruckMate into CoPilot and Freight Visibility, ensuring consistency across the entire ecosystem.

Driver support and compliance
CoPilot provides turn-by-turn navigation that incorporates the specific constraints of the large fleet, ensuring drivers stay on approved routes and remain compliant with local regulations.
‘Now that we’ve implemented Trimble Freight Visibility and are using that system full-time, we’re collecting clean master data with TruckMate, pushing it into Visibility to support operations, then extracting back to TruckMate for business work. We’re able to stay informed on where assets are and if they’ll arrive and depart on time to ensure we’re achieving the desired service levels, then provide status updates to customers.‘
