Perhaps the strongest theme was that AI will augment planners rather than replace them. As one respondent explained, AI will improve “speed, visibility and decision quality rather than fully replacing human planners,” while another envisioned a future that is “more automated, exception-based, with humans in the loop for decision-making.”

One respondent summarized this evolution well: “Standard allocation processes and common exceptions should be handled by trained AI agents. Planners should focus on refining the rules and managing truly exceptional shipments. In this way, logistics planners become more strategic and less execution-focused.”

Taken together, the responses suggest that AI’s greatest value will come from automating routine work and helping planners make faster, better-informed decisions as conditions change.
